Linear Alkyl Benzene Sulphonic Acid (LABSA) is produced through
an indigenously designed reaction system. The process is equipped to produce
consistently high quality products. The in-house developed technology has two
major benefits over existing alternate technologies:
-
Reducing investment
per unit of installed capacity by more than 50%
-
Reducing sulphonation
costs by more than 20%
LABSA is an
anionic surfactant widely used in the formulations of all types of synthetic
detergent powders, liquids and cakes. Due to its high active matter, quick
miscibility with water and low salt content, it finds its way into a variety of
formulations.
Applications
-
As main active matter
in all forms of detergents like cake, powder and liquid formulations
-
As emulsifier and
wetting agent in small quantity with other surfactant in toilet soap for
foaming
-
In pesticides to
improve the quality of spray.

Linear Alkyl Benzene Sulphonate
(LAS)
is a fully neutralized
compound, which can be directly used in formulations to provide effective
detergency to the product. Its availability in dry /semi dry form such as paste,
noodles and powders improves its transportation & usage in the industry.

Advantages
LAS powder is free
flowing and very easy to handle whereas LABSA is viscous sticky & acidic liquid
which is difficult to handle & requires special pumps & handling. This new
product has a potential to bring major changes in the detergent formulations in
many ways such as:
-
If pre-neutralised, LAS
paste or powder is used, the addition of Sodium Carbonate can be fully avoided
and this can be replaced by products like Starch & Sodium Silicate, which are
better builders & binders. These additionally give a smooth finish to the cake,
which is retained even after repeated applications
-
The aging time after
plodding is reduced if LAS powder is used as less water is present in the
smartly formulated cake thus saving on time, space and giving substantial advantage
in cost & convenience
-
The
fringe benefits of convenience in manufacturing operation, increased
productivity, reduction in material loss (due to leakage & pilferage) and the
advantage of not having to use a hazardous chemical, adds to the list of
benefits offered by LAS powder & paste
-
The
order of addition and sequence in all formulations using Sulphonic Acid is very
essential to prevent inadvertent reactions. LAS powder eliminates the need for
sequencing the addition of ingredients. This is possible only because this
surfactant is fully neutralised & hence no chemical reaction takes place. It is
a simple mixing arrangement. The ease of formulation results in better quality &
productivity
-
Using LAS powder
instead of Sulphonic Acid reduces the batch time by as much as 40%, thereby
increasing the capacity with the same set of equipments
-
LABSA is by nature
viscous, acidic, hazardous and sticky liquid and any formulator would only be
too pleased if an alternative was available. LAS powder provides just that in
terms of convenience and ease of handling and use. The problem of incorporating
exact quantity in every batch is eliminated
-
Handling LABSA also
results in wastage due to leaking pipelines and pumps. LAS powder being a powder
prevents wastage due to spillage & leakage. LAS powder comes in easy to handle
and tailor made bags , which can be sized according to the need of the
individual customer . This avoids the trouble faced with the weighing of LABSA
for every batch. Moreover, the formulator does not have to bother about the
weighing inaccuracies and manual errors
-
Adulteration of LABSA
is a perennial problem, which cannot be detected. LAS powder comes in sealed
units, adulteration of, which is almost impossible. Even if attempts are made,
it will be difficult to camouflage the same
